NFL Free Agency 2014: Walter Thurmond signs with Giants, Henry Melton leaves Seattle without a deal

Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

Seahawks free agent cornerback Walter Thurmond has signed a one-year, $3.5M deal with the Giants. Thurmond had seen some interest from several other teams, including the Niners, but ultimately settled on what looks like a 'prove it' deal that shows he's dependable enough to first stay healthy, then avoid a year-long ban that would come if he tests positive for drugs again. Thurmond served a four-game suspension last season after testing positive for what was reported as marijuana.

Thurmond becomes the sixth Seahawk unrestricted free agent to sign elsewhere, joining Brandon Browner (Patriots), Breno Giacomini (Jets), Golden Tate (Lions), Clinton McDonald (Bucs), and Chris Maragos (Eagles). Chris Clemons and Red Bryant, both released, also signed in Jacksonville.

In other news, MeltonWatch continues. Word is that Henry Melton left Seattle and is now in Dallas to visit with the Cowboys. The Hawks tried hard to come to an agreement with Melton yesterday, per reports, but looks like he's looking for a little bit more or simply wants to explore his options with Dallas.
