Steven "Haus money" Hauschka has re-signed with the Seahawks on a three-year, $9.15M deal that includes $3.35M in guarantees, reports Ian Rapoport. His face-value APY of $3.05M would put him as the 10th highest paid kicker in the NFL, though obviously we have not seen the way the contract is structured. Regardless, this is good news for Seattle, as Hauschka was nearly automatic in 2013, hitting on 33 of 35 field goal attempts (94%) during the regular season then converting on all six attempts in the Playoffs. He hit on 24 of 27 attempts in 2012.
The Seahawks have now re-signed five of their free agents -- DT Michael Bennett, DT Tony McDaniel, QB Tarvaris Jackson, TE Anthony McCoy, and Hauschka -- while losing/releasing eight core players from 2012 in DE Red Bryant, DE Chris Clemons, WR Golden Tate, S Chris Maragos, CB Walter Thurmond, CB Brandon Browner, DT Clinton McDonald, and OLB O'Brien Schofield (Schofield remains in limbo after his contract with the Giants was voided with a failed physical). They remain in play for several big-name free agents in DT Henry Melton and DE Jared Allen, and will likely dabble in the secondary free agent market once all the big names are signed.
Note: Steven Hauschka's wife posted a photo on her Twitter account of her husband popping a bottle of Dom Perignon on Saturday night, which led to speculation on the deal had been closed. She quickly deleted it once the rumor mill got going (thanks to people like me), but perhaps they were indeed celebrating the new deal after all.
