Seahawks vs. Cardinals: Seahawks make moves; Press conference, interview roundup

New, comments
Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY

The Seahawks added WR Bryan Walters to their 53-man roster, filling Brandon Browner's recently vacated spot. They re-signed DT Michael Brooks to the practice squad as well. Walters has experience returning kicks, so it will be interesting to see if he's active on Sunday. Seattle has been rolling with four receivers on gameday for the most part, so we'll see.

Below, you'll find a roundup of interviews and pressers from the past day or two. The Pete Carroll press conference from yesterday was particularly interesting to me, because Carroll addressed the importance of the play-action game they now favor (as opposed to the straight drop-back passing game).

The idea of a mobile, athletic quarterback that can roll out and throw from outside the pocket is pretty integral in pairing with the zone-blocking scheme, which is focused on lateral movement at the snap. In other words, when Seattle runs a play-action fake to wide-zone left, the entire line, and in theory, the entire defensive front seven, flows left. That leaves plenty of room for Wilson to bootleg out to the right with time and space to make throws downfield (and/or run). This means defenses have to account for the backside of the play much more than if Wilson were simply a drop-back pocket quarterback. This stresses opposing defenses.

Anyway, listen in.
