The Seahawks have gone out and been all Seahawky again today, as they signed a 6'7, 280 pound former pro Basketball player Darren Fells to a 3-year deal, as first reported by Ian Rapoport. Fells, 26, who will try to make the roster at TE for the Hawks, spent the past year playing hoops for Libertad Sunchales in Argentina and prior to that played in Mexico, France, Finland and Belgium.
Fells played basketball at UC Irvine and prior to that was an All-State TE out of Fullerton High School. He's the brother of Patriots TE Daniel Fells, who, incidentally, I had previously wanted Seattle to sign as a free agent.
The Seahawks continue with their leave-no-rock-unturned methodology and it will be very, very interesting to see what Fells looks like on the football field, and where the Seahawks plan to utilize him. He had originally planned on hosting a Pro Day in order to drum up some interest, but apparently the Seahawks were impressed enough Tuesday afternoon to offer him a contract on the spot. Which certainly piques my interest.
