I tweeted not too long ago that the 12th man was gonna need to prepare itself for a red wedding day. Knew this cutdown was coming, and it was gonna be shocking and brutal. It appears the first major swipe came last night when Mike Rob tweeted a sort of goodbye on his personal account. Today we’re getting reports that veteran corner Antoine Winfield may be next.

Jason LaCanfora of CBSSports.com is the first to report it:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Hearing that the Seahawks, so deep in the secondary, will be releasing CB Antoine Winfield.</p>&mdash; Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) <a href="https://twitter.com/JasonLaCanfora/statuses/373787861071327232">August 31, 2013</a></blockquote>

The news of Winfield being gone would be a surprise in that no one was really projecting him to be cut, but at the same time, it’s par-for-the-course for the Seahawks with veteran (30+) players. Also not that surprising when you think about how quiet of a camp Winfield has had. For me, even if Winfield made the team, he would be backing up Walter Thurmond III, who has looked excellent in preseason.

So who will take AW’s roster spot? There are currently 8 CB listed on the team site roster: Browner, Lane, Maxwell, Parker, Shead, Sherman, Thurmond, Winfield. Safe to say the bubble guys after Winfield would be Parker and Shead. I do not see Parker making this squad. Hasn’t looked good at all. Shead is interesting though. I think most of us, myself included, had Shead as a safety candidate, but maybe we should have trusted that roster designation more. Maybe the team likes Shead as a 6th corner. At the very least, he’s probably gonna be a swing player. I like Shead, I like the investment in his future, I like the t-shirts I’m gonna make for him that say “Shead Heads”.

In the meantime…keep yourselves braced Seattle. We’ve got 20 more to go. These will not be pretty.
