The Seahawks released their final injury report for this week's matchup with the Panthers. Seattle has seven players listed as "out", and they're all starters are major role players: TE Zach Miller, C Max Unger, MLB Bobby Wagner, CB Byron Maxwell, FB Derrick Coleman, DT Jordan Hill, and WR Bryan Walters.
With Byron Maxwell out, the Seahawks will again look to Tharold Simon to start in his spot. Simon started last week at St. Louis and quickly picked up two costly penalties -- one holding, one personal foul -- before getting hurt. He did make a nice tackle of Tavon Austin on a third down early in the game. Overall, he'll look to make his second start cleaner than the first. Marcus Burley will be in the slot with Jeremy Lane still on the IR-recall list, and Burley can play outside as well.
At fullback, the Seahawks will roll with Robert Turbin. I see this as an audition of sorts for Turbin, who has the skillset for the position but very little experience there. Darrell Bevell talked about how they have to limit some of the things he does at that spot -- i.e., fewer head-on downhill blocks and likely more arc blocking and receiving out of the backfield -- because he's not as big as some of the Seahawks' other options there at 220 pounds.
Coleman had surgery on his foot to repair a broken bone, and the Seahawks have yet to decide whether to place him on the injured reserve or wait his five-to-six week injury out. I think if Turbin does a good job there, it might make them more comfortable moving on without Coleman this year.
With Bryan Walters out with a concussion, the Seahawks will look to Doug Baldwin and Paul Richardson to return kicks and punts.
The good news from Seahawks practice is that Michael Bennett is good to go for this week's game after missing practice yesterday with a toe injury. TE Luke Willson is also ready to play, bringing some relief to the tight end spot.
----
Bobby Wagner is still in a cast and it doesn't sound like he's anywhere near returning at this point. Both Wagner and Miller will see specialists on their injuries this weekend and that might give us a better idea of their timetable for return.
Jeremy Lane and Eric Pinkins are both practicing in full. Lane isn't eligible to return until Week 10, November 9th vs. the Giants.
