Which prospects did we in the Field Gulls community like, and which did we hate, from the 2013-14 college football bowl games? And how have those rookies fared in 2014? Well, the January bowl games feature mostly big-time programs with more prospects.
Note to community scouts: pace yourself; don't blow your entire allowance on pre-January bowl games.
Method: An unscientific re-visiting of the bowl game community scouting threads with screenshots, same as part 1.
As a refresher, here is the community scouting form.
I’ll go game by game to see which prospects we talked about as a community and what they went on to do as NFL rookies (if they made it to that point).

*How weird is it that Georgia had only one more NFL player in this class than UNLV? The Dawgs were very young in 2013. So I'm taking a shot. It just looks weird in print.

Alabama v. Oklahoma
Thread 7 Prospects
Cyrus Kouandjio, T, Alabama: Coming into the game there was some talk that Kouandjio could slide toward Seattle at the end of the first round. He wasn’t fantastic in the game for what it’s worth, and perhaps that contributed to his slide out of the 1st round, but knee problems put a serious dent in his stock.
Here are the guys on NFL rosters from that game. Interestingly, none of us mentioned Norwood in the game thread.
Alabama – HaSean Clinton-Dix, FS, GB (1st/FS1); Adrian Hubbard, OLB, GB (UDFA/ps); Cyrus Kouandjio, T, BUF (2nd/RT2); AJ McCarron, QB, CIN (5th/QB2); CJ Mosely, ILB, BAL (1st/ILB1); Kevin Norwood, WR, SEA (4th/WR3); Jeoffrey Pagan, DT, HOU (6th/LDE2); Anthony Steen, G, ARZ (UDFA/LG3/LT3); Ed Stinson, DE, ARZ (5th/IR); Vinny Sunsieri, SS, NO (5th/IR)
|
Oklahoma – Aaron Colvin, CB, JAX (4th/CB2); Gabe Ikard, C, TEN (UDFA/IR); Trey Millard, FB, SF (7th/NFI); Corey Nelson, OLB, DEN (7th/WLB2); Jalen Saunders, WR, NO (4th/LWR3); Damien Williams, RB, MIA (UDFA/RB2)

Senior Bowl
Thread 10 Prospects
We had a LOT of wide receiver talk in this thread. Latimer, Streeter, and Moncrief got a lot more love. (Perhaps all the receiver talk should have indicated that this would be a special class.)
You can really see where Norwood put himself on the radar screen for many Field Gulls readers with his performance at the Senior Bowl. One pretty obvious limitation of this community scouting approach is that a guy like Paul Richardson can slip through the cracks a bit. Colorado's season was over early. So he wasn't on many of our radar screens until the spring.
Still, if it's kind of interesting to go back and look at what we thought of various prospects at the end of last year's college football season. Specifically, what intrigues me is how we miss on so many guys who turn out to be very good, or at least solid contributors as rookies.
