Pete Carroll spoke to the media this afternoon, breaking down what to expect in this Sunday's matchup with the Cowboys. Here are some notes.
Coach Carroll:
-
Pete Carroll said Russell Okung turned his ankle in practice yesterday. Not related to the injury he sustained to his toe against the 49ers. Carroll called him a game-time decision. Questionable (Ankle) not Doubtful (Toe) as the injury report listed him as. Carroll said: "He turned his ankle yesterday in practice and got rolled up a little bit," Carroll said. "We'll take it to game-time so he'll go in questionable at this point. We'll have to wait and see. He couldn't do anything today. So we'll see what happens."
-
Paul Richardson looked really good Pete said. "He looked really fast and he had a tremendous return in the sense that he was with the trainers the whole time... He must have really, really worked hard at it because he looked great out here on the practice field." Still assessing his situation all the way to game time. Carroll said Paul could be on the 53 man roster by Sunday, though no decision has been made yet.
-
Okung being available or unavailable to play does not change the offensive game plan.
-
When asked who will start at Center, Pete says "wait and see."
-
Marcus Burley will play, he will be wearing a very functional cast, great use of his hand.
-
Thomas Rawls had a calf bruise. Rawls has come back really well, he practiced well on Friday. We don't think we will even have to run him in pre-game (that is what they do to injured game time decision players to see how they respond), he will be ready to play.
-
Pete didn't want it to take us till half way through the season but we are finally running the ball how we want to. It was really obvious it took a long time, we went through growing pains.
-
Alvin Bailey knows our system; he is the most versatile guy we have. We count on him. He communicates well with the other players so we are expecting him to do a good job.
-
Carroll said that the presence of Lemuel Jeanpierre gives the team some added flexibility in that he can play guard and center, which could allow the team to mix and match up front if other changes are needed.
-
Also listed as probable are the likes of DT Jordan Hill, DL Demarcus Dobbs, FB Derrick Coleman and LB Nick Moody, who all have missed the last game or two. Other than Okung, the other 52 players on the 53-man roster were listed today as full participants in practice.
Relevant Tweets:
- @SheilKapadia Seahawks changed Okung's status to "questionable" with ankle issue. He suffered injury yesterday at practice.
My Thoughts:
-
Well, bad news about Okung but could be worse, it could be his toe. At the very least even if he misses the Cowboy game he will have the entire Bye week and a long week until the Cards game on 11/15 to get fully healed. As much as I hate the play I have seen from Alvin this season (god awful), I don't think I'd risk Okung's longer term health just to have him play injured against Greg Hardy.
-
Love that everyone else is healthy, I am predicted a big time ST return by Tyler Lockett now that we have so many of our starting ST punt and kickoff return team guys back.
-
I don't know if I want Paul back on the 53 for this game or not. I mean it would be cool if we added him and he played and he made a big catch or something, but on the flip side I doubt he will make or break this game. If we lose it won't be because Paul wasn't out there or because our WR's weren't talented enough to get open and make plays. Maybe it would be good experience for him to get in the game and play and get that under his belt so he is better prepared for playing against the Cards week 10?
