The Seahawks have released receiver Chris Matthews. Matthews was a star of Super Bowl XLIX with 109 yards receiving and a touchdown, but failed to really establish himself in the offense this season. He ends this year in Seattle with just four catches. Former Washington receiver Kevin Smith was promoted from the practice squad in his place.
Smith joins Doug Baldwin, Tyler Lockett, Jermaine Kearse, and Paul Richardson on the active roster, but Richardson's status going forward is in question due to a hamstring injury. Seattle has two more receivers on their practice squad (Kasen Williams, B.J. Daniels) as well.
In other news, the Cowboys have waived Christine Michael. Michael had just 15 attempts for 51 yards in five games with Dallas but the Seahawks are still expected to receive a pick from the Cowboys because he was active those five games.
