Earl Thomas injury: Hope is that he'll be active for 3rd, 4th preseason games and ready for Week 1

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

As was reported yesterday, Seahawks All Pro safety Earl Thomas has told ESPN's Ed Werder that he won't be ready when Seattle's training camp opens next week, and his status for the Week 1 opener at St. Louis is still uncertain. Thomas sounded conservative when he was asked about whether or not he'll be a go for September 13th.

He said: "I'm unsure about everything at this point. I will find out more when I get back to Seattle on [July] 30th when I take my physical."

That, of course, caused a fair amount of panic yesterday among Seahawks fandom, because the general sentiment during most of the offseason has been that Thomas would be ready to go by Week 1. Per Ian Rapoport, there's still some optimism that will be the case.

"The hope for Thomas is to be active after starting the preseason on the PUP list," he said, "to be active for the third or fourth preseason game, get himself into game shape quickly and be ready for Week 1."

There we go.
