Today Russell Wilson celebrates his Independence Day; Tomorrow maybe he signs a contract?

I have a dream that he will, at least.

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning.

In a couple short months, quarterbacks from Seattle will join others around the country and if recent trends tell us anything, will be launching the greatest aerial battle in the history of mankind.

Mankind -- That word should have a new meaning for all of us today. Not because of the wrestler Mankind, although, he's probably had some effect on the word.

We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests.

Perhaps it's fate that today is the 4th of July. (Perhaps it's just conveniently written that way.) And Russell Wilson will once again be fighting for his freedom. Not from tyranny, oppression, or questions about his height -- but from a team-friendly rookie contract.

He's fighting for his right to live, to exist. To get gold-plated spinners on his Bugatti Veyron.

And should he one day win another ring, the Super Bowl will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day when the world declared in one voice:

"We will not go quietly into the night!

We don't care about Wilson's height!

What's one or two inches anyway?

That's what she said."

Today, we celebrate, our Independence Day!

Tomorrow, we promise to never drink again.

Happy Fourth of July.
