The Seahawks waived 2014 5th Round pick Jimmy Staten on Monday, and the Giants claimed him on waivers. Staten spent most of his rookie year on the Seattle practice squad, and was in a good battle to make the roster this year at defensive tackle. Last year, John Schneider had talked about how Staten had some upside but was raw.
I thought he played well on Friday vs. the Broncos -- he was pretty stout at the point of attack, he deflected one pass, and had a tackle in the backfield on a Denver run -- but apparently his performance wasn't enough. The Seahawks, facing major shortages in their secondary this week with eight defensive backs sitting out of Monday's practice, had to sign two there just to have the numbers to practice with. Staten was one of the casualties of this, and the Giants apparently liked what they saw from him on Friday enough to take a look.
So, for now, Staten is gone.
