Brandon Mebane signs with the Chargers

The end of an era.

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Brandon Mebane, one of the longest-tenured Seahawks, is headed to San Diego. The regular in the middle for Seattle signed a three-year deal with the Chargers, and apparently received more from San Diego than the Seahawks were willing to give. Per Ian Rapoport, Seattle did try to keep him.

The Hawks will have to start looking for a new nose tackle now. They re-signed Ahtyba Rubin on Monday and there are a few younger guys like A.J. Francis that could step up, but look for Seattle to make a few more signings at the position and then potentially draft a big run plugger in May.

Seattle has done really well on the free agent market in signing defensive linemen on the interior, so that bodes well. Tony McDaniel, Alan Branch, Kevin Williams, and a few others have come in and contributed well, and Mebane is a rotational player that would only see the field on run downs.

He'll be missed though. Good luck in San Diego, Banger.
