The San Francisco 49ers went 5-11 last season and picked seventh overall, selecting pass rusher DeForest Buckner out of Oregon. Well, they are going to need that pass rush help now that outside linebacker Aaron Lynch has been suspended for the first four games of the season, as announced by the team on Friday. It also means that the 49ers are that much closer to picking first overall in 2017, which could bring Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson to San Francisco next season.
Every little bit helps. (Or hurts?)
Lynch had 6.5 sacks last season in 14 games, but was eighth in pressures per pass rush snaps per ProFootballFocus. (Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril were fourth and fifth, respectively.) He's a pretty good outside linebacker, so losing him for games against the Rams, Panthers, Seahawks, and Cowboys is no small matter. Would they have lost those games anyway? Probably. But this only reaffirms that shit is still pretty messed up for the 49ers right now.
