Roster news: Seahawks waive a WR, add a TE

Among those to not make the field on Saturday was young receiver Tyler Slavin, and now we know why: The Seattle Seahawks waived/injured Slavin on Sunday, meaning he will land on injured reserve if another team doesn’t pick him up. Slavin went undrafted out of New Mexico and Arizona last year, signing a futures contract with the team in February.

At 6’2, 215, he gave the receiver unit size they don’t really have, but they’ve now added back that size and then some at tight end.

By making room on the 90-man roster, the Seahawks signed tight end Clayton Echard, an undrafted player out of Missouri. Echard weighs in at about 260 pounds and he’s been listed as either 6’4 or 6’5. He had just two catches for 14 yards last season, being utilized only in short yardage situations. Possible offensive line transition? Echard had a tryout with the team after the draft and will now get an opportunity to prove himself at camp.
