Tony Romo injured on second play vs Seahawks

NFL: Preseason-Dallas Cowboys at Seattle Seahawks Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports

Well, that was not entirely unexpected but definitely not welcome if you’re an NFL fan.

The Dallas Cowboys QB was starting in the “rehearsal game” against the Seattle Seahawks to open the game, but one the second play, Cliff Avril got around the offensive line to sack Romo from behind. He immediately went down and seemed to be grabbing his back. Trainers immediately came onto the field and Romo was slow to get up.

Romo missed 12 games last season with a broken collarbone and the Cowboys went 1-11 without him. Expected to have one of the top offenses in the NFL, Dallas went 3-1 when he was starting last season.

Fans curious to see more of rookie Dak Prescott did get their wish though. The fourth round rookie came in and completed a first down on third-and-eight in his first play of the game. No news yet on Romo’s status, though he was standing on the sideline stretching his back after the play.

Update: Romo apparently strained his back a little bit but told coach Jason Garrett that he’d be fine to go back into the game, which Garrett said “no way” to. His night is over but he is apparently fine.
