It takes a lot of confidence and self-assurance to become a professional football player. Doubt is certainly something that can’t exist in your mind if you want to beat out the tens of thousands who are vying for a few NFL jobs, especially for someone like Todd Gurley, who could be the best running back in the league. And sure enough, confidence is not something that Gurley lacks.
“We’re going to get a win this week, for sure,” said Gurley on Thursday to the media.
(On if having a short week is better in regards to the team’s preparation for the next game)
“Not really. We’re going to get a win this week, for sure. Not really, obviously, you want to have that extra day to prepare, but I just feel like after a loss like that, you’re just so ready to get back at it. We’re definitely ready to play Sunday.”
The loss he speaks of was a 28-0 embarrassment at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night. The Seattle Seahawks — their opponent on Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles — didn’t have a much better performance offensively in Week 1, but did come away with a 12-10 victory over the Miami Dolphins. The Rams have also beaten the Seahawks in three of their last four meetings, but overall Seattle has win 17 of the last 22 dating back to 2005.
LA is 7-point underdogs this week and have moved rookie Jared Goff from third string to the backup role behind Case Keenum, the worst QB in the NFL in Week 1. None of which is to say that the Rams can’t beat the Seahawks, they’ve already proven time and time again that they can, but it is definitely an interesting game to be guaranteeing a win for by Gurley.
Never let it be said that he’s not confident, even against a team that’s had a top-3 run defense in each of the last two seasons.
