Teams must get down to 53 players on the roster by Saturday, September 3. Some of them have already began the process of doing so and certainly the Seahawks will be keeping an eye out for the players who are available.
Saturday updates (Friday updates below)
- The Ravens are releasing running back Justin Forsett. The former Seahawks player turns 31 in October but appeared to be a safe bet to make the final 53.
- The Broncos are releasing running back Ronnie Hillman, while the Bears are cutting running back Jacquizz Rodgers. Chicago also released WR/KR Marc Mariani. The Broncos officially are releasing Mark Sanchez after they failed to trade him. Sanchez immediately signed with the Cowboys.
- The 49ers released Marcus Rush, who led the NFL in preseason sacks with six.
- The Packers are apparently releasing accomplished veteran guard Josh Sitton. He’s gone to the Pro Bowl in three of the last four seasons. The Packers are also reportedly releasing ILB Sam Barrington.
- The Cardinals are releasing defensive end Red Bryant, per Josina Anderson.
- The Browns are trading CB Justin Gilbert to the Steelers. Gilbert was the eighth overall pick in 2014 but has been plagued with problems on and off the field. He joins Johnny Manziel as Cleveland first rounders from 2014 to be off the team by 2016.
- The 49ers are releasing WR Devon Cajuste (popular among Seahawks fans headed into the draft) and OLB Corey Lemonier, a third round pick in 2014.
- The Jet are releasing CB Dee Milliner and TE Jace Amaro.
- The Broncos are still working to trade QB Mark Sanchez.
- The Vikings are releasing WR Moritz Boehringer and S Michael Griffin.
- The Jaguars are releasing CB Nick Marshall, a QB at Auburn who has 32 1/8” arms.
- The Browns are releasing WRs Marlon Moore and Taylor Gabriel.
- The Patriots are releasing WR Keshawn Martin, WR Chris Harper, RB Tyler Gaffney.
- The Cardinals are releasing WR Brittan Golden.
- The Bears have released popular seventh round rookie WR Daniel Braverman. Other notable releases by Chicago include TE Tony Moeaki and C Khaled Holmes.
- The Texans released veteran wide receiver Cecil Shorts.
- The Chiefs released former Seahawks safety Jeron Johnson.
- The Rams let go of center Eric Kush, another person who got a lot of airtime on Hard Knocks. They are keeping receiver Nelson Spruce.
- The Patriots cut WR Aaron Dobson and rookie sixth round pick S Kamu Grugier-Hill.
- The Jets have released WR Kenbrell Thompkins, TE Zach Sudfeld.
- The Redskins have released DL Cullen Jenkins and TE Logan Paulsen.
Friday updates
- The Titans are releasing former University of Washington Huskies running back Bishop Sankey, just two years after they made him a second round pick. Sankey rushed for over 3,300 yards in his last two seasons with the Huskies with 36 touchdowns, but has made no impact in the NFL: 3.8 YPC, three touchdowns. Tennessee added DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry in the offseason and both look pretty good.
- Also being let go by one of the NFL’s worst team last season is receiver Justin Hunter. The Titans’ second round pick a year before Sankey, Hunter has impressive size and athleticism (6’4, 4.44 forty) but has done almost nothing in the pros. He had 22 catches for 264 yards and one touchdown last year. He’s still only 25. Hunter became more expendable after the team added Tajae Sharpe in the draft and Rishard Matthews in free agency.
- The Bills are releasing 32-year-old outside linebacker Manny Lawson. The former first round pick has not produced huge tackle or sack numbers in his career, but seemed to still be effective in Buffalo last season. Would Pete Carroll want to take a look at a vet cut by the Bills for the second year in a row?
- The Bills are also releasing these players: FB Jerome Felton, OT Chris Martin, CB Sterling Moore, RB James Wilder, Jr, WR Kain Colter, LB Randell Johnson, TE Blake Annen, OLB Kroy Biermann, WR Jarrett Boykin, CB Mario Butler, DT Brandon Deaderick, DL Lavar Edwards, RB Boom Harron, WR Dez Lewis, OL Marquis Lucas, G Cyril Richardson, CB Sammy Seamster, OLB Max Valles, C Fernando Velasco, DT Casey Walker
- The Texans are releasing these players: OL Jeff Adams, G Karim Barton, WR Quenton Bundrage, TE Anthony Denham, C Dalton Freeman, LB Eric Lee, OT Andrew McDonald, CB Robert Nelson, OLB Tony Washington, WR Wendall Williams, RB Kenny Hilliard, DT Ufomba Kamalu, TE Eric Tomlinson, G Chad Slade
- The Bucs are releasing these players: OL Josh Allen, LB Micah Awe, RB Peyton Barber, WR Kenny Bell, DE Kourtnei Brow, DB Javien Elliott, DT A.J. Francis (former Seahawk), LB Jeremiah George, OL Ben Gottschalk, RB Russell Hansbrough, DB Isaiah Johnson, OL Kyler Kerbyson, LB Josh Keyes, WR Jonathan Krause, WR Freddie Martino, DE Cliff Matthews, S Kimario McFadden, OL Kevin Palmer, WR Bernard Reedy, LB Luke Rhodes, FB Dan Vitale
- Vitale is a fullback drafted in the sixth round out of Northwestern this year. Is Seattle fully satisfied with Will Tukuafu?
- The Titans are also releasing these players: G Jeremiah Poutasi, FB Sam Bergen, LB Curtis Grant, LB JR Tavai
- The Broncos are releasing these players: Vontarrius Dora, OLB, Mose Frazier, WR, Lars Hanson, OT, Henry Melton, DL, Dwayne Norman, LB, Taurean Nixon, CB, Kyle Peko, DL, Kalif Raymond, WR, Sadat Sulleyman, OLB, John Tidwell, CB, Juwan Thompson, RB, Eddie Yarbrough, OLB
- Rand Getland reports that the Titans will release Dexter McCluster. Still only 28, the RB/WR/KR/PR went to the Pro Bowl in 2013.
- The Bengals have released S Jimmy Wilson.
- Reports out of San Francisco say that Colin Kaepernick will at least make the team.
- The Bears are cutting former Seahawks QB/WR B.J. Daniels.
- The Chiefs were trying to trade QB Aaron Murray last week, and now they have released him. Seattle could conceivably give him a look.
- The Chiefs are also releasing these players: Da'Ron Brown, CB, Deveron Carr, CB, Reid Fragel, OT, Andy Mulumba, OLB
- Gus Bradley has released OT Rashod Hill, an undrafted free agent out of Southern Miss who signed with the Jaguars and seemingly had a good camp. Not good enough to make the final 53.
- The Cardinals are releasing these players: Cariel Brooks, CB, Donald Brown, LB, Marquis Bundy, WR, Chris Clemons, S, Rob Crisp, OT, Antoine McClain, G, Jaxon Shipley, WR, Kerwynn Williams, RB
- The Falcons are releasing these players: Nordly Capi, DE, Laurence Gibson, OT, Malliciah Goodman, DE, Shayne Graham, K, Bryce Harris, OT, Cory Johnson, DT, Devonte Johnson, CB, Damian Parms, S, Collin Rahrig, OL, Tyler Starr, OLB, Corey Washington, WR, Matt Wells, LB
- The Bears are releasing these players: B.J. Daniels, WR/QB, Khaled Holmes, C, Danny Mason, LB (waived/injured), Kevin Peterson, CB, Shelley Smith, G, Garry Williams, OL, Terry Williams, DT
- The Browns are releasing these players: Pierre Desir, DB, Charles Gaines, CB, Rajion Neal, RB (waived/injured)
- The Rams are releasing two players showcased on Hard Knocks: Ian Seau and Austin Hill.
