The Seattle Seahawks return home after receiving their first loss of the 2016 season in a 9-3 who-can-be-less-bad matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. Luckily for the Seahawks, the hey-we’re-even-worse San Francisco 49ers are coming to town, led by first year head coach Chip Kelly and quarterback Blaine Gabbert.

The 49ers are also coming off their first defeat of the season, a 46-27 loss to the Carolina Panthers. The game was actually a one-score game in the fourth quarter until the 49ers began to 49er, while the Panthers began Panthering. Despite being one of the league’s worst rosters, the 49ers could be a tough test for the Seahawks we see before us today, as the 49ers greatest strength on the defensive line matches up well against a hobbled Russell Wilson and the inept Seattle offensive line.

This will be Chip Kelly’s first game against Pete Carroll’s Seahawks as 49er head coach, after Jim Tomsula’s firing at the end of the 2015 season. The only time Kelly and Carroll have faced off in the NFL was in the 2014 season, when Seattle traveled to Philadelphia and defeated Kelly’s Eagles in a dominating performance by a score of 24-14.

Although the once great rivalry has become awfully timid in recent years, this week three game is no guarantee. You know what they say; there is nothing more dangerous than a 1-1 team with Blaine Gabbert at quarterback.
