Pete Carroll on Germain Ifedi returning this week: “I’m kind of counting on it”

NCAA Football: South Carolina at Texas A&M Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Seahawks selected tackle/guard Germain Ifedi out of Texas A&M with the final pick in the first round this past April, but he has yet to play in his first regular season game as a pro. That could change this week against the New York Jets.

When asked if Ifedi would return this week, Pete Carroll said on 710 ESPN on Monday: “I’m kind of counting on it.”

Ifedi suffered a high ankle sprain in practice the week before the Seahawks were set to open the season vs the Miami Dolphins.

If Ifedi were to return, he’d almost certainly be slotted in as the right guard, which is where he played during most of training camp and I believe all of the preseason. That could push J’Marcus Webb out of a starting job, but right tackle Garry Gilliam has played so poorly through three games that it would not be surprising to see Webb (or maybe Ifedi) move out to tackle.
