The Seattle Seahawks had their opportunity to be the two seed in the NFC and get a bye week, but they blew that by losing to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 16. Instead, they will be the three seed after beating the San Francisco 49ers while the Atlanta Falcons secured the bye with a win over the New Orleans Saints.
Despite beating the Falcons this season, the Seahawks finish 10-5-1 while Atlanta ends up at 11-5 in Dan Quinn’s second year. Indeed, Seattle could have also secured the two seed with a win over the Cardinals earlier in the season when they tied on a missed 28-yard field goal by Steven Hauschka.
Hauschka also failed on a go-ahead PAT against Arizona last week and had an extra point blocked against the 49ers on Sunday.
The Seahawks will now play host the six seed on Saturday night, which will be the Detroit Lions. It would have been the Washington Redskins, but they lost to the New York Giants and that ended their season.
The game is 5:15 PM PST on Saturday night, NBC, in Seattle.
