Credit to The Stranger’s Spike Friedman for reminding us of this incredible moment from 2015:
Russell Wilson vs. Golden Tate is a good storyline. But this… this is the best storyline https://t.co/evmMMqWMXl— Spike Friedman (@SpikeFriedman) January 2, 2017
Michael Bennett: "I don't like Matt Stafford much. He's from Dallas. They killed the President (JFK). ... I hold it against him."— Curtis Crabtree (@Curtis_Crabtree) October 6, 2015
The full quote is even a little better:
"I don't like Matt Stafford that much. He's from Dallas, they killed the President. It's where JFK, one of the greatest Presidents, died so I just have a little hatred towards him."
Michael Bennett was then asked if he held JFK's assassination against Stafford, and he said "I hold that against him."
What his brother Martellus, who played for the Dallas Cowboys for four years (and may have given Michael a different argument for hating people from Dallas, as Martellus said earlier this year that he hated it there, and hated Jason Witten) had to say about it at the time:
“He’s an asshole,” Martellus Bennett said, jokingly. “Yeah, yeah, both of them probably are but I’m talking about my brother in that instant. I think it’s funny. Mike’s just a funny guy. Stafford probably wasn’t even born yet.”
Kennedy was killed on Nov. 22, 1963. Stafford was born on Feb. 7, 1988.
(I edited “a--h—-” to read asshole because this is my blog and I can say swear words. This was an especially tame one.)
The funny thing is that Bennett is absolutely right. Stafford has no response to being responsible for the assassination of JFK because he is responsible. All people from Dallas are. Looking forward to the Seahawks playing the Cowboys in the playoffs because then everyone on that side of the field will be responsible for it. Damn you, Dallas, we miss JFK.
He would’ve been 100 this year if not for Stafford.
