On the eve of the NFL trade deadline, the Seattle Seahawks traded cornerback Jeremy Lane, a 2018 fifth-round pick, and a 2019 second-round pick to the Houston Texans for left tackle Duane Brown, who literally made his season debut against the Seahawks on Sunday. This is an undeniable huge upgrade at left tackle from Rees Odhiambo, who’d been playing in place of the injured George Fant since the third week of preseason.
For all of the criticism that Pete Carroll, John Schneider, and Tom Cable have received for the way this offensive line has been constructed over the years, acquiring Brown is a big deal (no pun intended). It looks as if the next several weeks will see a lineup of Duane Brown-Ethan Pocic-Justin Britt-Oday Aboushi-Germain Ifedi. And to think, Brown and Aboushi started on the same line for Houston in a few games last season, now they’ll be reunited in Seattle.
Here’s a quick compilation of reactions on Twitter, including a tweet from Duane’s wife, Devi Brown.

Obviously Texans weren't on greatest terms with Duane Brown, but still need to protect Watson. Trade shows great confidence in Chris Clark.— Sarah Barshop (@sarahbarshop) October 30, 2017
#Texans have survived 6 games without Duane Brown. This is money in the bank for the team with him wanting out since the off-season.— patrick (@PatDStat) October 30, 2017
There it is. Works for me..now go win me another Super Bowl https://t.co/wkDs0ReDgI— Dave Softy Mahler (@Softykjr) October 30, 2017
Wow. That's a lot. Texans did well. Seahawks need Brown to be a 3+ year solution to be worth all that. https://t.co/vEo3fj72SH— Hawk Blogger (@hawkblogger) October 30, 2017
The Seahawks traded a piece they didn’t need (Lane) and a piece they will replace on draft day (a 3rd) for a piece they desperately craved.— John Fraley (@johndavidfraley) October 30, 2017
Plus have to make cap space for him? That's a lot https://t.co/8B2v8217jw— Kent Somers (@kentsomers) October 30, 2017
Give Clowney an assist on that Duane Brown trade for nearly winning game on his own— Gregg Rosenthal (@greggrosenthal) October 30, 2017
I’m kinda more mad about losing the 5th than the future 2 https://t.co/2h8LXV8SRP— glenjamin (@weekapaug009) October 30, 2017
Also give Russ credit for shredding Texans CBs showing how much they need Lane https://t.co/GzRJkiUwhy— Nate Tepp (@natetepp) October 30, 2017
More than I thought Houston would get considering the situation. Lane was displeased with losing nickel duties. Competent CB. https://t.co/U8wnBBFL6g— Mike Clay (@MikeClayNFL) October 30, 2017
