Injury update on Luke Joeckel and what it means for Ethan Pocic

During his Wednesday press conference, which was held on Thursday since the Seattle Seahawks play on Monday night this week, Tom Cable stated that when Luke Joeckel returns to his spot at left guard, Ethan Pocic will be in competition to start elsewhere on the line. The exact timing of Joeckel’s return is uncertain, as both Cable and Pete Carroll stated this week that Joeckel will be a gametime decision for the Monday night matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.

For those who are wondering where Pocic might move, when Cable stated that he would go into competition at another spot, a reporter immediately inquired as to whether that meant Pocic would go into competition at right tackle. Cable immediately shot down that idea, stating that he meant Pocic would move into competition at right guard. This means that when Joeckel returns the Hawks will use at least one new offensive line configuration which involves Duane Brown and Joeckel on the left side, and possibly a second new configuration with potentially Pocic and Germain Ifedi on the right side.

Thus, who exactly will be starting on the offensive line for Seattle on Monday remains a mystery, with the entire left side potentially returning from injury, or not, depending on how Duane Brown and Joeckel feel come gametime Monday night.
