The 6-3 Seattle Seahawks return to the confines of CenturyLink Field for a Monday Night Football matchup against the 5-4 Atlanta Falcons. This is the first meeting between the two sides since Atlanta eliminated the Seahawks from the postseason in the 2017 NFC Divisional Round. The Seahawks memorably won a controversial 26-24 home game over the Falcons last regular season.
This is a high-stakes game for both teams, as a win for the Seahawks would put them back atop the NFC West on head-to-head tiebreaker over the Los Angeles Rams. As for the defending NFC champs, they need to win to keep pace with the 8-2 New Orleans Saints and the 7-3 Carolina Panthers. Even if repeating as division champs isn’t in the cards for Dan Quinn’s team, then having the head-to-head tiebreaker against his former employer is absolutely vital.
As you surely know by now, the Seahawks will be without Richard Sherman and Kam Chancellor due to their respective injuries, and while Sherman is definitely done for the season, Chancellor may also be soon placed on IR. The Falcons are relatively healthy, but a concussion has put running back Devonta Freeman out for at least this game, and potentially longer. Their punter Matt Bosher is also a game-time decision, so the kicking situation for Atlanta could be quite interesting.
