Seattle Seahawks cornerback Shaquill Griffin, the de facto number one corner following the season-ending Achilles injury to Richard Sherman, almost immediately left Monday Night Football with a head injury. The Seahawks rookie is doubtful to return as the team checks him for a concussion.
Griffin was hurt on the second offensive play of the game. The Atlanta Falcons marched down the field on a few plays to take a 7-0 lead just three minutes into the game. Matt Ryan threw his first touchdown on the ensuing drive following an interception thrown by Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson to give the Falcons a 14-point advantage early.
Byron Maxwell replaced Griffin in the lineup, meaning he’ll have no adjustment time between being a free agent last Monday to becoming a “starter” for the Seahawks in his return to the Puget Sound. Jeremy Lane has already had significant struggles against Atlanta, including a costly defensive pass interference penalty and several helpless moments in coverage.
