Seahawks waive Dwight Freeney after just four games

In completely unexpected news, the Seattle Seahawks waived legendary pass-rusher Dwight Freeney on Tuesday, ending his tenure in Seattle after just four games with the team. No corresponding move was made, so Seattle currently has an open spot on the 53-man roster.

The 37-year-old Freeney racked up three sacks in his first two games, but none against the Arizona Cardinals or Atlanta Falcons. I’m scratching my head on this one, there has to be more to the story given how good he looked in Seattle’s defensive rotation. He clearly still has something left in the tank in his 16th NFL season.

Coincidentally, former Seahawks defensive end Cassius Marsh was let go by the New England Patriots. Marsh was traded to New England on roster cuts deadline day, in exchanged for 2018 fifth- and seventh-round picks. He only has one sack on the season and has had his fair share of struggles in Matt Patricia’s system. Marsh only played two snaps on Sunday against the Oakland Raiders, and now he hits the waiver wire.
