Seahawks injury: Earl Thomas ruled OUT vs Washington

NFL: Indianapolis Colts at Seattle Seahawks Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Seahawks have ruled Earl Thomas as OUT on Sunday vs Washington. Backup Bradley McDougald will be making his first start for the Seahawks at free safety.

Thomas injured his hamstring late in the game against the Houston Texans in Week 8, prompting him to miss the final two defensive drives. Seattle was able to get the stop it needed in run defense to give the offense the ball back, allowing Russell Wilson to throw the game-winning touchdown to Jimmy Graham.

Thomas missed one game last season with a hamstring injury, returning and then breaking his leg two games later. With that injury, he missed the final five games of the regular season and both playoff games. Thomas was back to his normal self this season, if not better than ever. He had a pick-six against the Texans, the second of his career.

McDougald was signed to a one-year deal in the offseason to help bolster the depth at safety after the disaster that was Steven Terrell starting in place of Thomas in 2016.
