The NFL Network has taken advantage of the March Madness bracket craze by creating a Tournament of Catches, run by former Seahawks wide receiver Nate Burleson. Out of thirty-two spectacular receptions, three Seahawks players were nominated in two different regions.
Jimmy Graham vs. Jets (Helmet Catch Region)
Doug Baldwin vs. 49ers (Helmet Catch Region)
Paul Richardson vs. Lions (Sea of Hands Region)
Voters pushed Jimmy Graham to the second round over a Cole Beasley touchdown snag in a game against the Ravens. Graham’s run would end at the hands of his teammate Doug Baldwin, who bested the Jared Cook sideline catch vs. Dallas in the NFC Divisional Round, and then blew out Graham’s one-hander by a 70-30 margin. Baldwin squeaked past A.J. Green’s Hail Mary touchdown 52-48 to make his way to the semifinals.
On the opposite side of the bracket, Paul Richardson comfortably breezed by Michael Crabtree’s touchdown vs. the Chargers in round one, then triumphed over Patrick Peterson’s one-handed INT vs. Buffalo in round two, but was edged out 54-46 by Julian Edelman’s damn near impossible moment of heroism.
The winner of that semifinal will take on the winner of Edelman’s Super Bowl magic vs. Atlanta vs. Mike Evans’ one-hander against Atlanta. Poor Falcons.
Click here to vote for Baldwin over Julio and let’s get him Catch of the Year honors. The final is on Monday, April 3rd, so the semifinals are in its early stages. I can tell you that as of this screenshot at 6:50 PM ET on Thursday, March 30th, Baldwin has the decided advantage over Julio. Let’s keep it that way!
