With the 58th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks have chosen center/guard Ethan Pocic out of LSU. Providing versatility and depth on a young offensive line, this pick could be huge moving forward.
It will be interesting to see how Pocic slots in on Seattle’s line and how that affects the team’s plans for Justin Britt after this season. Britt will be the starting center in 2017, but the guard spots are up for grabs. A theory is that they could move Pocic to tackle, which would leave Germain Ifedi at right guard.
They will play him at RT.— Jared Stanger (@JaredStanger) April 29, 2017
This would indicate that the likelihood of Britt leaving in free agency isn’t set in stone. While the Seahawks haven’t shown a trend of extending their offensive linemen, Britt put some solid play on tape in 2016. If he can continue this in 2017, he might be too good to pass up extending.
Counterargument: Max Unger.
Whatever happens, Seattle obviously likes Pocic’s versatility and it will be intriguing to watch how he factors into the Seahawks’ offensive line.
Five-for-one lineman offering roster flexibility; has played tackle, guard and center. Determined player. Shoots hands inside defenders frame and keeps them there. Shows the hand strength and body control to "ride the bull" against stronger players while remaining engaged. Rapid lateral movement allows him to slide along his gap to pick up blitzers. Pass sets feature adequate base width and solid hand quickness. Fluid combo-blocker who glides easily to his second-level targets with good angles. Patient blocker on second level. Able to wait as long as possible for committing to his block in space. Features good body control and high connection rate on blocks in space. Athletic on pull blocks and screens and able to make blocks well down the field. Smart and makes the offensive calls.
