Still-former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch took part in an arm wrestling competition in Las Vegas over the weekend, and the league is looking into whether or not the players who partook — there were reportedly at least 30 — were in violation of some rules.
“Since the contest involved betting and gambling, current players could be in violation of the league's gambling policy and may face fines. According to the NFL policy, players and staff members and not allowed to make professional appearances at casinos and other gambling establishments.”
Lynch is rumored to be seeking reinstatement and release so he can join the Oakland Raiders, just as they begin the early stages of relocating to ... Las Vegas. Hypocrite: Thy name is Roger Goodell.
According to The Sporting News, the grand prize was $100,000, only half of which was set to go to charity. James Harrison, Kenny Stills, Marquette King, Maurkice Pouncey, NaVorro Bowman, Patrick Chung, and Mario Edwards were also named in the report. Lynch is on the reserve/retired list, but is technically still under contract with the Seahawks. How this will affect him or any other player remains to be seen.
Update: Harrison posted a photo of everyone at the event. It’s hard to tell who else is there. Any other sleuthing out there?
Update 2: An earlier version of this story reported that Eddie Lacy appeared to be in the photo, but this remains unconfirmed.
