Funding the Field Gulls Contributors - raising money to send the contributors to the game.

It had been my intention last week to put forth a series looking at the Hawks position group by position group from a contract and salary cap perspective. Unfortunately, as many of you know, I live in Florida and thus I am spent my free time last week preparing for the impending doom of Hurricane Irma and evacuating the area to get a couple of states away. In time, you should all still get the overview of the position groups, however, I did want to take the opportunity to organize what W&P proposed in the 8/31 Century Links regarding sending one of the contributors or staff members to a Seattle Seahawks game. I have set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for this, and now it simply becomes a matter of raising the money to send them and deciding who we want to send where.

First of all, we would need to decide how we want to allocate the money - whether to fund one large trip, or to fund several smaller adventures. For example, even though the initial discussion was to raise money to send someone to a game at the CLink, that may not be the first choice of all of the contributors. Personally, I live in Florida, and as much as I love the Hawks, I work every Saturday, usually finishing late in the day. That means to go to a Sunday game in Seattle would mean to jump on a six-hour, cross country flight late Saturday night or first thing Sunday morning, head to the stadium and then take a late red eye back to Florida on Sunday night or Monday. Any way you cut that up, it’s not something I would really be excited to do since I prefer to watch the games from the climate controlled comfort of my recliner. Also, having spent the last five years living in the warmer climates of the Nevada desert and Florida, there is a reasonable chance I may not survive a mid to late season expedition to Seattle. You’ll find me in a hoodie anytime the temperature drops below about 70, so even if I flew all the way to Seattle on a Sunday morning in November or December, there’s a slightly greater than zero probability I’d end up watching the game at an airport bar at SeaTac rather than risking death by hypothermia on a cold, drizzly fall day.

That said, it would also likely be possible to send more contributors to the game of their choice if we send them to a game being played locally. For example, I believe Mookie is in New York, and perhaps we could send him to the Hawks game there if that would be easier for him than making a cross country trek. Samuel R. Gold is a Washington Redskins fan, and while he comes across as a fan of football in general, I’d still guess he’d prefer to attend a Redskins game than a Seahawks game. Personally, I would be much more likely to make use of tickets to the game on the road against the Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars or New York Giants because the travel involved would be far less demanding. However, as mentioned before, I prefer to watch the games at home rather than fight the crowds and weather at a stadium, so would decline to make use of any of the money. In any case, I’ll leave the decision for how to divvy up the funds to you guys and to the contributors.

Thus, without further delay, the link for the campaign is https://www.gofundme.com/fieldgulls-contributor-trip so if you are able, it’s not a financial burden and you’d like to say thank you to the Field Gulls staff and contributors for the work they do, this would be a great way to do so. Now, if donating would in any way take food off the table or make life more stressful, then please do not donate. If you only have enough extra money to donate to this or to donate to something else, like the Hurricane Harvey or Hurricane Irma, please donate to those first, and then consider donating to our contributors. If you have tens of thousands of dollars of dollars burning a hole in your pocket, follow me on Twitter so you can send me a direct message and I’ll get you my PayPal info pronto.

Even if you are unable to support this financially, sharing this campaign on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media platforms could still help go a long way towards saying thanks to the people who make this site as great as it is.
