The Seattle Seahawks won’t play the Green Bay Packers until November 15th on Thursday Night Football, but when they do, they won’t be facing either Ty Montgomery of Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.
Green Bay dealt Montgomery to the Baltimore Ravens for a 2020 7th-round draft pick, giving Baltimore some depth at running back along with a receiving threat, considering Ty is a converted WR who was wearing #88 while with the Packers. This comes as no surprise considering Montgomery ridiculously went rogue on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, reportedly defying orders to stay in the end-zone on the game-deciding kickoff just before the two-minute warning, and promptly fumbling the ball back to the Rams on his ill-fated return. Aaron Rodgers never got the chance to engineer a game-winning drive and potentially hand the Rams their first loss, and instead he made a fool of himself. This evidently was just a culmination of problems concerning Montgomery, so if he wasn’t getting traded, he most likely was getting cut.
In a more surprising move, safety Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix was traded to Washington for a 2019 fourth-round pick. Clinton-Dix is in the final year of his rookie contract and didn’t expect to be back in Green Bay, so it turns out they just sped up the process. He hasn’t missed a start in his NFL career, has three interceptions on the year, and now will be teaming up with D.J. Swearinger on a Washington team that is 5-2 and looking to maintain their standing as the top team in the NFC East. Pro Football Focus places Clinton-Dix alongside Swearinger and Bradley McDougald among the highest-graded safeties this season.
Despite Green Bay’s spirited defensive showing against that juggernaut Rams offense, they’re still among the NFL’s worst defenses, so they’ve parted ways with one of their better players, and I don’t know how they plan to adjust their secondary now that he’s gone.
So the three major trades on Tuesday that directly affect the remainder of the Seahawks schedule are the two listed here for Green Bay, as well as the Los Angeles Rams acquiring pass rusher Dante Fowler Jr from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
