Seaside Chats: Talking Seahawks-Rams with Turf Show Times

NFL: Los Angeles Rams at Seattle Seahawks Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

After years of hosting 3000 NFL Mock Draft, Real in the Field Gulls, and Seaside Chats on Soundcloud for free, I’ve had to make an adjustment in the podcasts and try something new. The podcasts will now be hosted on Patreon for listeners who donate at the $2 per month threshold and up. That’s like .50 cents per show. If you’ve been a fan of the pod over the last four or five years already, then you could go back and consider those as a part of the package for $2 and it’s more like one pence per hour. How’s that for a good deal?

As an avid listener of podcasts myself, I understand the hesitation of a paywall or Patreon account — we’ve all been there as fans of these shows. As a person trying to make a living creating stuff that goes on the internet though, I also know how scary that is and how tight things can get while you’re creating that stuff that goes online and is available at a cost of completely nothing. I started Real in the Field Gulls with the intention of just getting experience making podcasts so that a few years down the line, if potentially there were jobs available in that field, I’d be decent at it. Then came 3000 NFL Mock Draft, which was a whole other experience, including the 10-hour long days of covering the draft live which I’ll always remember as an insane thing to do. Then creating Seaside Chats when Danny Kelly left for The Ringer and could no longer do Real in the Field Gulls and starting over as a solo podcaster of sorts.

It’s been quite a process, including hundreds of hours of creating the show and then putting it online, free to the user but at a cost for me to host it on Soundcloud. Just in order to keep the shows going, financially speaking, I need to try something new. If you’re a fan of the show and want to help out, it’s just $2 per month. If you’re a fan of the show but can’t put in the two dollars per month, I totally understand and I still appreciate your support and apologize for putting it behind a paywall at Patreon; hopefully if the Patreon show does well enough, there can be both a free version and the bonus paid version simultaneously in the future.

The shows on Patreon will still have the guests you love, the topics you want to hear discussed, with hours upon hours of Seattle Seahawks coverage. Thank you to everyone who has supported the shows and this site over the years, with or without a donation. I appreciate ya all. Here is where you can go to donate and to get the first episode of the Patreon podcasts.

This week’s show features Joe McAtee of Turf Show Times, a regular guest of all these podcasts. Joe comes in to discuss the state of the LA Rams, his concerns about their defense, including the limitations of Marcus Peters, whether or not the Rams are actually under-performing the capabilities of their offense, if Todd Gurley is more important than Jared Goff and should win MVP, and then for some reason I just go on and on about how damn good Aaron Donald is.

Thanks for listening, reading, and supporting.

(This is my first time putting a podcast on Patreon, so please don’t hesitate to let me know if there are any technical difficulties with listening to the show or using the RSS link to be able to subscribe to the show on iTunes!)
