Troymaine Pope could debut for Chargers tonight

Seahawks fan favorite Troymaine Pope is not even on the Seahawks, but I’d be remiss to not tell you that he could be playing on your TVs tonight. The LA Chargers have activated Pope to the 53-man roster amid concern that starting running back Melvin Gordon could miss the Thursday night game against the Kansas City Chiefs with a knee injury. Gordon missed last week’s game and the Chargers got just 78 yards on 22 carries from Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson.

Pope, undrafted out of Jacksonville State in 2016, was the star of Seattle’s preseason that year and it drew considerable ire when the team released him at final cuts. He spent a short time with the New York Jets, getting one yard on one carry, before returning to the Seahawks and getting 43 yards on 11 carries. Pope next signed with the Indianapolis Colts, then Houston Texans, before getting his third stint in Seattle earlier this year. The team released him in November and he was picked up by the Chargers on November 28.

He has not played in an NFL game since his last appearance with the Seahawks two years ago.
