The right side of the Seattle Seahawks offensive line is banged up right now, so it’s not too much of a surprise that they’ve decided to promote rookie offensive tackle Elijah Nkansah from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. This announcement was made by the team on Saturday.
Nkansah is a 6’5”, 315 lbs rookie UDFA from Toledo who played both left and right tackle in college, but was exclusively a left tackle in his senior season. Obviously he’s an emergency option right now due to the uncertainty over the health of starting RT Germain Ifedi (groin), who will be a game-time decision for Sunday night’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Right guard D.J. Fluker (hamstring) is also questionable, so Seattle might need to start two backups on the OL against the dangerous Chiefs pass rush.
With Nkansah promoted, someone had to be waived, and that person is WR Malik Turner. The UDFA rookie was himself promoted from practice squad to the active roster earlier this season, making two catches for 20 yards in six games. It’s highly likely that once he clears waivers, he’ll just head back to the practice squad.
