Last Thursday the Seattle Seahawks announced that they had agreed to a one year contract with defensive end Marcus Smith, who the team had added on the eve of training camp last offseason. A former first round draft choice of the Philadelphia Eagles, Smith filled a rotational role on the Seattle defensive line in 2017, and could see a bigger role in 2018.
With Michael Bennett now a member of the Philadelphia Eagles and Cliff Avril’s future uncertain, there is a definite opportunity for the younger member of the Seahawks defensive line to step up and show what they have, and it appears that Smith is working on being ready for training camp. For those who are wondering what NFL players do to stay in shape during the offseason, here is a thread of tweets from Smith himself detailing his workouts from Tuesday.
If you’re curious about what I do to get into top shape, you’re in luck! Here are all three of the workouts that I did yesterday.

I started my day after breakfast - with 60 minutes of yoga, followed immediately by 90 minutes of speed work.

I finished speed work around 11:30, got some lunch, and took some time to get ready for my NEXT workout.

At 2PM, I hit the weight room. First up: 4 sets of bench press with chains and bands for added resistance. 15 reps per set.

Incline dumbell bench, 15 reps
Lat pulldowns, 25 reps
Crunches, 30 reps
Three rounds.
My final circuit:

Flat bench dumbell press, 15 reps
1 arm rows, 15 reps per side
Reverse hyper, 15 reps.
Three rounds.
Now, I enjoy a good workout and push myself pretty hard, but all of that in one day is intense. In any case, it’s still a long time until training camp, with offseason workouts and the draft coming up in the next month, and hopefully Smith continues to train hard for the remainder of offseason so that the results show up on the field in the fall.
