While Thursday Night Football isn’t going anywhere except from NBC and CBS to FOX, one element of the oft-criticized mid-week NFL product appears to be in some trouble.
“Color Rush” has been a part of TNF over the past few seasons, with very uh... colorful alternate jerseys being worn by essentially every team on the schedule throughout the year. The Seattle Seahawks have sported their “Action Green” uniforms for two straight seasons.
On Tuesday, FOX Sports executive Bill Wanger flat out said at the National Association of Broadcasters Show (aka NAB Show) we won’t be seeing Color Rush uniforms on Thursday Night Football.
Bill Wanger of FOX Sports says alternate uniforms on Thursday Night Football are going away. Hardcore fans don’t need gimmicks to watch. The game schedule will also be stronger. #NABShow— Jason Barrett (@sportsradiopd) April 10, 2018
I’ve never understood Color Rush as an interesting gimmick, especially when so many teams have much cooler throwback jerseys, and I am glad to see this elimi——wait a second. Looks like you can’t kill off Color Rush just yet!
On color rush, the uniforms aren't going away completely. It's just that they might not be exclusive to Thursday nights anymore, sources say. Could be some other tweaks to the uniform policy as well. Also, this is subject to votes from ownership.— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) April 10, 2018
That’s right, we may just end up getting some Color Rush stuff shifted to other days of the week instead of only on Thursday nights.
Action Green may live to see another season.
