Earl Thomas, not present at workouts, hints he will be ready to go

NFL: Pro Bowl-NFC vs AFC Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

This week there has been a lot of drama around the Seattle Seahawks for an offseason, from reports of Earl Thomas skipping voluntary offseason workouts to allegations that Michael Bennett would read books during team meetings. However, now we have something encouraging to read about, as All Pro safety Earl Thomas seemed to hint that he will be playing for the Hawks this fall in an Instagram post on Wednesday evening.

The post itself is Thomas putting up a picture of Peyton Manning with a motivational quote about being as prepared as possible, and that is a good sign regarding where Thomas is at mentally. Now, if that were the only piece of the puzzle, it likely wouldn’t be worthy of an article unto itself, however, there’s one extra little piece to the post that makes it extremely noteworthy. Here’s a capture of the post with the important piece highlighted. (Big shout out to Twitter user Peter, handle @pstab98, for finding this and pointing it out.)

Earl is, of course, Thomas, but for those who are not active on social media they may not recognize the handle of the person he is addressing. Well, for those who are unfamiliar, @babylead is fellow Seahawks safety Bradley McDougald, who is likely slated to be the starter at strong safety next to Thomas come the fall assuming Kam Chancellor cannot get medical clearance to play.

The fact that Thomas states he intends to “elevate the group” certainly seems to indicate an intention to play for the team, though, it could obviously be out of his hands. John Schneider and Pete Carroll could, conceivably, trade Earl sometime in the next week, but that’s something that is out of Thomas’ control.

All Thomas can do is be ready to go when the time to actually take the field arrives, and based on this post, it appears he will certainly be.
