The Seattle Seahawks just got one player bigger: They have selected San Diego State running back Rashaad Penny with their first pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. The Seahawks were originally at pick 18, then moved down in a trade with the Green Bay Packers to wind up at 27. Seattle added a third round pick and swapped a seventh for a sixth in making the move.
They then opted to stay at 27 and select Penny, the second running back off of the board on Thursday, after the New York Giants selected Saquon Barkley at two.
Taking a running back in the first round has been a running controversy here at Field Gulls, and at other places too. But the Seahawks felt they needed to upgrade their running game and apparently Penny is the guy that they think can help them do it.
Penny was NFL Network Mike Mayock’s 38th-ranked player on his Top 100 Big Board.
