To the surprise of no one, the Seattle Seahawks traded out of the 18th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. They’ve moved nine spots down to #27, receiving a third-rounder (pick #76) and sixth-rounder (pick #186) from the Green Bay Packers, who’d traded down from #14 to #27, acquiring the New Orleans Saints’ 2019 first-rounder in the process. Green Bay selected Louisville DB Jaire Alexander with their top choice, as they badly need help in the secondary.
Seattle didn’t have a third-rounder entering the draft, and we know John Schneider loves to trade down. On the plus side, this assures us that the Seahawks will be picking someone on Friday, and day 2 is historically where they’ve chosen some of their best players.
For now, we shall wait until they make their selection... or trade down some more like they did last year.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the news:

A shocking development. (not really) https://t.co/U062HsgJAQ

Seahawks trade down. Just guessing here, but I think they wanted Derwin James to replace Earl Thomas. So when the Chargers took James, Seattle traded down instead.

John Schneider spent the first five minutes of his off-podium session at the combine obsessing over mid-round picks. Trade was a pretty sure thing.

Better hit with one of those three picks. https://t.co/tphu4rGuSa

The Seahawks need to trade with dumb teams to get better value in trading down
