The Seattle Seahawks are known to pull some surprised with their early draft selections, and the 2018 NFL Draft was no different. After trading down from the 18th overall pick to 27th, Seattle selected San Diego State running back Rashaad Penny, who led Division-I FBS last year with 2,248 rushing yards.
Three running backs went in the first-round, with Saquon Barkley going 2nd overall to the New York Giants. Four picks after Penny went to Seattle, the New England Patriots chose Georgia star Sony Michel, whose draft stock was in question after concerns about his knee arose on the eve of the draft.
The debate over the value of the modern NFL running back has been a popular one, particularly among Seahawks fans. If you’re disappointed that Seattle went the RB route in round one, then maybe these old tweets from Penny will cheer you up, because he seems like perfect Seahawks material to me.

You may have noticed that the Arizona Cardinals are left out of this. Rashaad’s brother Elijhaa Penny plays for Arizona, and rushed for two touchdowns last season.
Ideally we’ll get to see Penny go from trashing Seattle’s NFC West rivals on Twitter to destroying them on the field.
