Cliff Avril may not be on the Seattle Seahawks roster anymore, but he’s staying in Seattle for his next job.
It was announced on Monday that Avril will join longtime Seattle sports radio host Jason Puckett for a midday show starting this summer on KJR-AM.
From the official press release:
Avril is joining the on-air staff at Sports Radio 950 KJR. The Jason Puckett and Cliff Avril Show will air from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays with Avril bringing a comprehensive insight into the Seahawks to the KJR airwaves. Avril has been a frequent guest on the radio station the last few months since the end of the Seahawks’ season in January.
“I’m excited to join the KJR team!” Avril said. “Seattle is home and I can’t wait to cover the best sports city in the world.”
The Jason Puckett and Cliff Avril Show will debut on July 9.
As you surely know by now, the Seahawks released Avril on Friday with a failed physical designation. He suffered a career-threatening neck injury in Seattle’s 46-18 romp over the Indianapolis Colts last October, and obviously missed the rest of the season. Avril was an integral part of Seattle’s Super Bowl-winning defense, and a fantastic pass rusher with an incredible ability to strip-sack quarterbacks.
This news doesn’t constitute as an official retirement for Avril, as he recently wrote in The Players’ Tribune, “all I can really say is that I’m working closely with my doctors and that I’m going to make the best decision for myself and my family when the time is right.”
All the best to Cliff on his new venture!
