Video: Russell Wilson leads heroic 4th quarter comeback in Madden NFL 19

For video game lovers and fans of the Seattle Seahawks, this clip is for you, as early “work-in-progress” gameplay footage has been released for Madden NFL 19.

Sports Gamers Online uploaded a three-minute quarters matchup between Seattle and the Houston Texans, played at a rainy CenturyLink Field. In real life, Houston and Seattle played one of the best games of 2017, with the Seahawks coming out on top 41-38, as Russell Wilson outdueled rookie sensation DeShaun Watson.

In the video below, which I stress again is early gameplay footage, so don’t think EA Sports is showing you the final product here, Watson is able to lead the Texans to a 6-0 lead right before halftime on a 4th and 6 strike to a wide open Will Fuller, capping off a 96-yard drive. You can sense the realism and attention to detail, as the Seahawks gave up 3rd and 15 with relative ease. Rookie punter Michael Dickson did pin Houston at the 4-yard line with his only punt of the game, which we hopefully see a lot in real life.

Houston took up the entire third quarter and maneuvered their way well into Seattle territory for the final quarter. At the Seattle 24, Watson was sacked on 1st and 10 by Dion Jordan. In a bold move, Watson went towards the back of the end zone for a touchdown, only for Shaquill Griffin to break up the pass intended for DeAndre Hopkins. On 3rd and 11, Jordan dropped into coverage and denied the outlet to Lamar Miller, who had lots of room for a conversion. In a dramatic turn of events, Ka’imi Fairbairn’s field goal hit the upright and bounced wide, giving Russell Wilson a chance to win the game with 1:48 to go and with 68 yards to victory.

Ed Dickson featured heavily on this masterful drive, catching three straight balls for 43 yards to send the Seahawks well into Houston territory. Brandon Marshall hauled in a pass for 11 yards to get Seattle into the red zone. Dickson false started, and thankfully Madden doesn’t seem to have 10-second runoffs coded into the game, so Seattle didn’t burn a timeout. Following short gains to Amara Darboh and JD McKissic, Wilson found Tyler Lockett open in the back of the end zone for the game-winning score with just nine seconds remaining.

DeShaun Watson’s desperation heave would be picked off by Earl Thomas, and that’s the ball game. Seahawks 7 Texans 6 and Mr. 4th Quarter does it again, even in the virtual world.

Madden NFL 19 hits the shelves on August 10th. If this game doesn’t interest you, there’s always ESPN NFL 2K5, the gold standard for NFL simulations.
