EA Sports released the full player ratings for the latest installment in the Madden franchise, which is set to be released on August 10th. Madden 19 will be the franchise’s first with the ‘Madden 99 Club,’ a group of seven players with 99 overall ratings. Those players are: Aaron Rodgers, Antonio Brown, Aaron Donald, Luke Kuechly, Von Miller, Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski. The highest rated Seattle Seahawk, linebacker Bobby Wagner, came up just short with a 97 overall.
Wagner is one of five Seahawks to be 90 overall or above, joined by Earl Thomas (95), Russell Wilson (92), Doug Baldwin (90) and Kam Chancellor (90). Although Chancellor is unlikely to ever play again, he should remain in the game as he won’t officially retire.
After the five 90+ overall players, there’s a drop off to the seven players who come in at an 80+ overall: K.J. Wright (83), Tyler Lockett (82), Duane Brown (81), Frank Clark (81), Sebastian Janikowski (81), Brandon Marshall (81) and Shaquill Griffin (80).
The ‘80 Club,’ as I’m calling it, seems to be where the most movement could take place as Seattle’s roster and ratings are updated throughout the year. Janikowski and Marshall are battling for roster spots, while Clark and Griffin could enjoy breakout seasons.
Finally of note, the highest rated rookie on the Seahawks is punter Michael Dickson, coming in at a healthy 77 — above Jon Ryan’s 75 overall. The rest of Seattle’s draft class is sprinkled throughout the 70s and 60s: Rashaad Penny (76), Shaquem Griffin (72), Will Dissly (71), Rasheem Green (70), Tre Flowers (66), Jacob Martin (65) and Alex McGough (61).
Any ratings that seem particularly egregious? Anyone you think should’ve found themselves in the ‘Madden 99 Club’? Whose overall will rise or fall the most over the course of the 2018 season?
