Seahawks sign former Broncos QB Paxton Lynch

With living legend Alex McGough off to the Jacksonville Jaguars and Brett Hundley a free agent, Russell Wilson entered Thursday as the only quarterback currently on the Seattle Seahawks roster.

Not anymore.

In news I know you’re absolutely itching to read, first-round draft bust Paxton Lynch, formerly of the Denver Broncos, has signed a reserve/futures contract with the Seahawks, making him the first entrant in the competition to be Wilson’s backup QB for the 2019 season.

I don’t need to tell you that Lynch is/was terrible. One of John Elway’s many misfires, Lynch was taken 26th overall and only made four starts across two seasons, getting released before the start of the 2018 season. His stats are 79 of 128 (61.7%) for 792 yards, 4 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. Lynch’s best game was against the Kansas City Chiefs at the end of 2017, going 21/31 for 254 and 2 touchdowns in a game that was basically like any other meaningless Week 17 matchup featuring a slew of backups.

There’s no need to really be up in arms over this. You would assume the Seahawks would draft or sign another QB for competition in the coming months. Remember when the Seahawks signed Brady Quinn for preseason reps in the 2013 season? I do.

This signing does bring us full circle, as in the 2016 NFL Draft, the Seahawks traded down from 26th to 31st, using that transaction to land Germain Ifedi and Nick Vannett, while the Broncos selected Lynch. Now they’re all on the same team (for now).
