We’ve reached November! One week after playing the worst team in the NFC South, the Seattle Seahawks (6-2) are back home playing the NFC South’s second worst team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-5).
Seattle dominated the Atlanta Falcons last week for a half, then made the 2nd half needlessly close and only won by seven points. The Seahawks have a brutal schedule after Tampa Bay, so they really need to win this one any way they can. Tampa Bay is almost certainly not going to be competing for any wild card spot, but they do have Bruce Arians as head coach, and he went 4-1 in Seattle when he coached the Arizona Cardinals. “The Sheriff” must be sent packing with an L so we don’t have to endure his grin again.
This tale of two quarterbacks couldn’t be much more different. Russell Wilson is playing at an MVP level, while Jameis Winston is a turnover machine who’s shown glimpses of greatness, only to be undone by moments of sheer stupidity. Where the Bucs do shine is in run defense, where they are best in the NFL. Seattle loves to run the ball, but they should exploit Tampa’s dreadful secondary instead of forcing something that isn’t there. Pete Carroll may want to resist his usual temptation and exploit the easier matchup. On the flip side, Tampa’s offense has two dynamic WRs in Chris Godwin and Mike Evans, so they’ll be a stern test for the Seahawks secondary.
