The Seattle Seahawks have downgraded defensive end Jadeveon Clowney to OUT for Sunday’s matchup against the Carolina Panthers. Clowney had been suffering from a “core” injury, but was also battling illness this week. That has been enough for Pete Carroll and the staff to hold him out for this game and see if he’s prepared to return in Week 16 vs the Arizona Cardinals.
Clowney has missed one game this season, that being Week 12 against the Philadelphia Eagles. In that contest, Ziggy Ansah — who is questionable this week — recorded 1.5 sacks and two QB hits. Rookie first round pick L.J. Collier received a career-high 25 snaps but had no stats to speak of, including pressures. Shaquem Griffin also got 25 snaps and recorded two QB hits of his own. Rasheem Green had a sack and two QB hits as well.
The Panthers have allowed 50 sacks so far this season, including 34 in the last seven games. Quarterback Kyle Allen has been sacked seven times twice and five times twice. He has nine touchdowns and 12 interceptions over that span.
Without Clowney, and potentially Ansah, the team will look to Green, Quinton Jefferson, Collier, Griffin, and Branden Jackson.
