In the same week that the Seahawks lost receiver Josh Gordon to an indefinite suspension, they’re losing a key role player on defense as well. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Friday that defensive tackle Al Woods will be suspended four games for violating the league’s policy on performance enhancing drugs.

That would put out Woods for the final two regular season games as Seattle vies for the top seed in the conference.

Woods has played in all 14 games and has 32 tackles, three TFL, two fumble recoveries, and one sack. He is second on the team in snaps at defensive tackle behind Quinton Jefferson, though Jarran Reed is catching up following his return from his own six-game suspension. SportsInfoSolutions has credited him with 14 pressures this season and only two missed tackles.

He is 7th in Average Tackle Depth among all defensive tackles with at least 30 tackles, signifying that he’s been a sure player against the run.

In his place, the team may just be leaning heavier on Reed, Jefferson, and Poona Ford. They are also dealing with injuries to Jadeveon Clowney and Ziggy Ansah on the defensive line.

The Seahawks signed Woods to a one-year deal in the offseason, so he will be a free agent again in March.

Pete Carroll has since confirmed with media that Bryan Mone will be promoted from the practice squad.
