Teams are now able to negotiate with free agents as of Monday morning. We’ll keep track of the relevant news here, especially as it pertains to the Seattle Seahawks.
The Lions are expected to sign CB Justin Coleman
there goes Justin Coleman #Seahawks https://t.co/7KpffCnCrl
— Field Gulls (@FieldGulls) March 11, 2019
The Seahawks re-signed cornerback Akeem King last year to a one-year deal, a key move I’m sure once they anticipated that Coleman was not coming back. That must have been obvious during their negotiations and now if he becomes the highest-paid slot corner in the league, Seattle likely did the right thing to let him go. Nobody will ever get more value-per-dollar from Coleman than they did.
Minnesota Vikings bring back DT Shamar Stephen
Source: DT Shemar Stephen plans to sign a three-year deal with the Vikings.
— Dan Graziano (@DanGrazianoESPN) March 12, 2019
Last offseason, the Seahawks signed both Tom Johnson and Shamar Stephen. Johnson was cut after Week 1 and re-signed by the Minnesota Vikings. Now Stephen is headed to Minnesota again, too.
Chicago Bears sign RB Mike Davis
Mike Davis and the #Bears agree to a 2-year deal worth $6M, source said. It has a max value of $7M. https://t.co/1zpIUBIyyt
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 11, 2019
The Seahawks’ third-down back for 2018 gets a two-year deal from Chicago, who might be looking to shop starter Jordan Howard.
Lions also grab DE Trey Flowers
Per @AdamSchefter, Trey Flowers deal with the Lions is expected to something close to $16M-$17M per season. Massive.
— Field Yates (@FieldYates) March 11, 2019
Detroit is trying to win free agency, because that works so often.
Washington signs S Landon Collins to huge deal
Sources: Former #Giants star S Landon Collins is signing a 6-year deal for a whopping $84M with the rival #Redskins. Hard to imagine a box safety with this kind of deal after last year’s slow safety market. This moves the market dramatically.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 11, 2019
Maybe Earl Thomas can do quite well for himself after all. Landon Collins left the Giants — who did not want to tag him — for an $84 million deal over six years with Washington.
49ers sign LB Kwon Alexander
Kwon Alexander will sign with the 49ers, per source.
— ProFootballTalk (@ProFootballTalk) March 11, 2019
The Niners surprisingly signed Alexander to a four-year, $54 million deal. He has missed 16 games over the last two seasons and is notoriously bad at tackling.
Since 2011, only 9 players in the NFL have over 50 missed tackles. Kwon Alexander has 78!
— Sam Monson (@PFF_Sam) March 11, 2019
I have never thought too highly of the moves made by John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan since they arrived two years ago, and this deal doesn’t go against what I would have expected.
The Raiders sign T Trent Brown
New #Raiders LT Trent Brown gets $36.75 million (all but $500K in workout bonuses fully guaranteed) in the first two years of his four-year, $66 million deal. Wowza.
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) March 11, 2019
The tackle market is a dangerous one, as Trent Brown is now paid as a fop-five player at his position. This should affect how the Seahawks view restricted free agent George Fant, as well as deciding on the fifth-year option of Germain Ifedi. Brown was with the New England Patriots last season, making it the second year in a row that they lost a free agent tackle to a huge deal. (Nate Solder, Giants)
Rams re-sign DE Dante Fowler, Jr
Last night, the #Rams agreed to terms with pass-rusher Dante Fowler Jr. on a 1-year deal worth $14M, source said. The former 1st rounder gets another year with the team that traded for him at roughly the amount that the fifth-year option would’ve been, then can hit the market.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 11, 2019
The Rams traded for Fowler last season and liked him well enough to essentially sign him to the deal they gave Ndamukong Suh in 2018. It’s a lot of money for a pass rusher who still has a long ways to go before proving himself. It’s only three million less than what Frank Clark would get on the franchise tag.
Eagles sign DT Malik Jackson to three-year deal
The #Eagles are expected to sign DT Malik Jackson on a 3-year deal worth $30M, source said. The deal isn’t agreed to yet, but it is getting there.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 11, 2019
With Philadelphia trading Michael Bennett, they signed Jackson to bolster the defensive line just a couple days after he was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jacksonville Jaguars sign Nick Foles to $88 million deal
Guranteed money for Nick Foles in Jacksonville, per source: $50.125 million. https://t.co/45h5eJtHkM
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 11, 2019
The Jaguars were well in line to get the former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, and they’ve now signed him for $22 million per season.
Kansas City Chiefs sign S Tyrann Mathieu
The #Chiefs are signing former #Texans S Tyrann Mathieu to a 3-year deal worth $42M, source said. This was their top target in free agency, prying him from the #Texans.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 11, 2019
“Honey Badger” was on a one-year contract with the Houston Texans, and he’s turned that into a bigger payday from the Chiefs. Kansas City figured to be in the running for Earl Thomas, but that doesn’t appear to be the case anymore.
